  Jura Lakes Tour

Pont de la Pyle

This bridge (351 m long, 9 m wide and 74 m high) connects the 2 banks of the Vouglans lake since the construction of the Vouglans dam. It offers a superb view. Boat cruises are available at the marina located near the bridge.

Saut de la Saisse

At the village of Pont-de-Poitte, the Ain river has formed some giant potholes. There is a good view of these from the bridge and they are clearly visible when the water is low.

Ferme de l'Aurochs (Aurochs Farm)

On the way to the Herisson waterfalls, this mythical animal can be observed in its natural environment, along with other primitive species such as bison, buffalo and Scottish Highland cattle. There is also a children's animal pet farm.

Cascades du Hérisson

The village of Doucier marks the start of the Hérisson river valley, one of the finest natural settings in the Jura. A 4 km trail through the woods leads to a succession of tumultuous waterfalls. The most impressive is the "Eventail" ("fan"), a 65 meter fall.

Vallée du Drouvenant

At the village of La Frasnée, 6 km from Clairvaux-les-Lacs, the Drouvenant river springs and forms a beautiful waterfall. A scenic point offers a nice view over the Drouvenant gorges, present day traces of glacial origin.

Fruitière 1900

In the village of Thoiria, between Clairvaux-les-Lacs and Moirans-en-Montagne, traditional comte cheese-making on wood fire is being demonstrated in an old cheese-dairy, called "fruitière". Tours are available in the morning during the months of July and August.

Musée du Jouet (Toy Museum)

Located in the heart of the Children Land and the Haut-Jura Natural Park, the museum houses a quite unique collection of 15,000 toys. Films. Boutique. Playground.

Villards d'Héria

This Gallo-Roman site dating from the first century is among the most important archeological sites in France. The remains of temples, thermal establishment (a complete aquatic center including 2 swimming pools and 2 saunas) and the famous "Pont des Arches" (bridge over the Heria river) are surprisingly well preserved.

Barrage de Vouglans (Vouglans Dam)

Operating since 1968, the Vouglans dam with a height of 130 m and a length of 400 m holds back 600 million cubic meters of water. It flooded 35 km of the Ain gorge with water, forming the Vouglans Lake, France's 3rd largest reservoir. Several areas have been adapted for sports and recreation (Surchauffant and Bellecin on the west bank and Mercantine on the east bank).

Medieval town nestled around Mount Orgier with the majestic 15th century church "Notre Dame" and its imposing bell tower. Charming houses and distinguished mansions, once the homes of weavers and wood turners, line the winding streets. The banks of Vouglans lake are very enjoyable in the summer season.

Château de Présilly

The vestiges of a castle dating from the 11th and 14th centuries, where shows are organized in the summer. The castle is surrounded by a discovery trail to recall what castle life was like.
