General Information



The Val de Morteau comprises seven communes: Les Combes, Les Fins, Grand'Combe Chateleu, Les Gras, Montlebon, Morteau, Villers-le-Lac. It is located on the last plateau before reaching Switzerland.
The ski area -at the starting point of the Grande Traversee du Jura (GTJ)- has 6 ski lifts for downhill skiing (from beginner to expert runs), and 150 km of cross-country trails for classic or free style.
The region is famous for its high quality clocks and its Morteau sausage.

Morteau

Town at the crossroad of Besançon, Pontarlier and Switzerland, Morteau is located in a large valley on the banks of the Doubs river. With a population of about 7,000, it is the main town in this area and is known for its clock industry and its famous sausage.
Activities in Morteau: Fitness center, ice-skating, movie theater, night club. Visit of the Clock Museum and a bell foundry.

Resort Villages and Mountains

  • Les Combes, Mont Vouillot, Altitude: 910 to 1,160 m
    Cross-country skiing: 45 km of trails for classic style and 22 km of untraced itineraries.

  • Villers-le-Lac, Lagattau, Altitude: 920 to 1,080 m
    Located on the bank of the Doubs river, the touristic town of Villers-le-Lac (4,200 inhabitants) is known for the "Saut du Doubs" (waterfall on the Doubs river).
    Cross-country skiing: 30 km of trails for classic style, 17 km for free style and 9 km of untraced itineraries
  • Le Chauffaud, Gardot, Châteleu, Les Seignes, Altitude: 1,050 to 1,300 m
    Le Chauffaud is the starting point of the Grande Traversée du Jura (GTJ).
    Cross-country skiing: 47 km of trails for classic style and 28 km for free style along the Franco-Swiss crest. One lighted trail for night time skiing
    Downhill skiing: 1 ski lift in Le Chauffaud and 1 in Chateleu.
  • Mont Meusy, Altitude: 1,290 m.
    Family ski resort well suited for both cross-country and downhill skiiing as well as snowshoeing.
